The McDougald Funeral Home2211 North Main StreetAnderson, South Carolina 29621864-224-4343OBITUARY SYBIL BLACKWELL April 30, 1918 - March 17, 2011ANDERSON, SCSybil Emaline Smith Blackwell, age 92, affectionately known as 'Mother Blackwell' of Anderson Place and a long-time resident of Lake Shore Drive, died Thursday, March 17, 2011 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.Born in Oconee County, SC on April 30, 1918, Mrs. Blackwell was the daughter of the late Turner Corbin Smith and Margaret Suzanne Lyle Smith. She was a Licensed Practical Nurse and formerly employed by Anderson Memorial Hospital and later Latham Nursing Home. She was a member of Lakeview Baptist Church.Survivors include her daughters, Betty Holliday-Smith, Brenda McClure, both of Anderson, Marilyn Knowles of Chapin, SC, Carolyn Stewart-Martin of Anderson and Judy Bryan of Savannah, GA; 18 grandchildren, 28 great-grandchildren and 4 great-great-grandchildren.She was predeceased by her husband of 72 years, Luther Eugene 'Gene' Blackwell; sons, Herbert Alton Blackwell, Tommy David Blackwell; Luther Eugene 'Sonny' Blackwell, Jr., and one grandson, Jerry 'Jeremey' Alton Walters, III. She was the last surviving member of her immediate family being predeceased by her ten siblings.The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Friday, March 18, 2011 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm. A Graveside Service will be held on Saturday, March 19, 2011 at 2:00 pm at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens officiated by the Rev. Dr. Thomas C. Maxwell.
