Obituary

Sybil Smith Merritt, 68, of Anderson, SC passed away on Sunday, March 18, 2018 at Rainey Hospice House. Born September 2, 1949, in Oconee County, SC, she was a daughter of the late Clyde Woodrow Smith and the late Mildred Logan Crooks. She was also preceded in death by her husband, Randy Gene Merritt and her sister, Shelby Jean Hawkins. Sybil was a graduate of McDuffie High School, class of 1967 and was a devoted Christian and a member of Victory Baptist Church, where she was very active. She worked for West Point Stevens for over 25 years and had also worked for AnMed Medical Center as a nursing assistant and supervisor over Environmental services. She was a loving and devoted mother, grandmother, great-grandmother and sister and a friend to all. She is survived by sons, Brian (Jodi) Merritt and Brad (Amy) Merritt all of Anderson; siblings, Woody (Judy) Crooks of Anderson, Connie (Ricky) McCullough of Anderson, Troy Crooks, Jr. of Hartwell, GA and Brenda (Morris) Hawkins of Salem; grandchildren, Kyle (Cassidy), Jacob, and Wyatt Merritt; and great-grandson, Waylon Merritt. Also survived by her step-father, Troy Crooks of Starr. The funeral service will be held at Victory Baptist Church on Wednesday, March 21, 2018 at 1:30 p.m. with the Reverend Herbert Moore and Pastor Sam Duncan officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veteran's Cemetery. The family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at the church on Wednesday, from 11:30 a.m. to 1:00 p.m. Flowers will be accepted.
