Laura Sylvene Shaw Smith, age 90, passed away on Monday, November 28, 2016 at her home. Born in Anderson County, SC on October 28, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Claude A. Shaw and the late Maude Todd Shaw. She was a dedicated mother, grandmother, and great-grandmother. Sylvene delivered Meals on Wheels for a time and was a member of Flat Rock Baptist Church where she taught Sunday School. She is survived by her children, Frank O. Smith, Jr. and his wife Patricia and Hugh Smith and his wife Jettie Ann, all of Anderson, SC; a sister, Thelma Ashley, of Thomson, GA; her grandchildren, Spring Kilgore, Matthew Smith, Alex Smith, and Tanner Smith; seven great-grandchildren; and a devoted nephew, Ben Albert, of Anderson, SC. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, Frank Oscar Smith, Sr.; three brothers, R.G. Shaw, Tom Shaw, and Carey Shaw; and seven sisters, Bessie Tate, Iris Wolff, Hazel Lusk, Evelyn Phillips, Sadie Hughes, Jeanette Bannister, and Katie Beebe. The Funeral Service will be held in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home on Thursday, December 1, 2016 at 12:30 p.m. with Reverend Joe Hayes, Jr. officiating. Interment will follow at Flat Rock Baptist Church Cemetery.
