Born in Clovis, New Mexico, he was a son of Elmain Smith and Dorothy Swackhammer Smith of Anderson. Ted was a United States Army veteran, having served in the Vietnam War. He later retired from BASF as a mechanic. Survivors include his wife of the home; a daughter, Cindy Owens of Anderson; three grandsons, Saben, Colby and Blake Owens; sisters, Elaine Smith Liston of Greenville and Mary Lee of Anderson; brother, Stephen Charles Smith of Fayetteville, NC and numerous nieces and nephews. A Committal Service, with Military Honors, will be held at 12 Noon on Friday, November 20, 2009 at M.J. 'Dolly' Cooper Veterans Cemetery, officiated by Reverend Dr. Frank Whitfield.
