Obituary

Terry Allen Moore, 68, of Sandy Springs, SC passed away unexpectedly on Tuesday, January 9, 2024, at his home.

Terry was born July 31, 1955, in Anderson, SC. He was a son of the late Alvin Henry Moore and the late Gladys Stewart Moore. He was predeceased in death by his brothers, Tony Moore and Jerry Moore. He was a member of Pendleton Masonic Lodge # 34 and the Electric City Car Club.

Terry spent his life working on cars. An excellent mechanic, he could determine a car's problem just by listening. For the last 38 years, he was the manager of Mac's Tires. He was "Mac's Tires." Anytime you entered his office, he would greet you with, "Hey boy, what do you have to trade today?" He was the extreme barterer of all sorts of things. An old tractor, boat, whatever, he would trade or barter down to his price, restore, and resell at a premium. Everybody knew Terry. Everybody respected his opinions, relied on his knowledge, and loved his happy spirit. He never met a stranger and if you were special to him, he would tag you with a nickname. Some were not very flattering.

In 1979, Terry became the loving husband to Regina Dyar. The wedding was planned for the same Saturday as a local community barbecue. Every year, he volunteered to cook all night before the barbecue. The night before his wedding was no exception. He made it to his wedding along with aromas of smoke and barbeque which filled the church. Terry thought it was so funny. His new mother-in-law, Becky Dyar, did not share in his humor. She thought her first born was destined to a life of sorrow. After a short while, the church debacle was forgotten. Terry won Becky's heart and became another one of her children.

In 1985, Terry and Regina brought their only child, William Carlton Moore, into the world. Will was Terry's pride and joy. They spent many hours together in the shop. Will learned not only how to work on a car, but he learned respect, tenacity, taking care of details and "always take care of what you have." Will's friends loved coming to the Moore home. Terry treated the boys the same as Will, teaching the same life skills, while laughing, telling stories and maybe, a few colorful jokes.

Terry loved everyone, but grandsons, E.C., Al and Lawton captured most of his heart. He was so proud of their ball games, cattle shows, the fact they would drive down through the field on a tractor, just because they could, sneaking out at night to care for kittens in the barn, or any antic they played. He loved the fact all three boys were truly boys! Never did he end a call or visit, without saying, "I love you." And the boys knew Papa T did!

He is survived by his wife, Regina Dyar Moore; son, William Carlton Moore; daughter, Sara Margaret Edwards Moore; grandsons, E.C., Al, and Lawton Moore; pop and ma-in-law, Earl C. and Becky Dyar; and his best fur baby, Gabby.

The family has scheduled a celebration of life for Terry, at 11:00 am, on Friday, January 12, 2024, at the McDougald Funeral Home. Reverend James Irvin Dyar will officiate, and Reverend Richard Busha will conduct the eulogy. Masonic Rites will be conducted during the service by Ezra Heathman Munn, Jr. Pendleton Lodge # 34. The family will gather to greet family and friends until 2:00 pm after the service at the funeral home.

Flowers will be accepted, or memorials may be made to the Shriners Children's Hospital.

The family will be at the home of his son, Will Moore, 741 Bishop Branch Road, Central, SC.

"A man who works with his hands is a laborer; a man who works with his hands and his brain is a craftsman; but a man who works his hands and his brain and his heart is an artist." Terry was truly an artist and will be missed by many.
