Obituary

Thomas James Hinchman, age 72, of Anderson entered the Church Triumphant upon his death at Rainey Hospice House on Friday, February 23, 2024, following a courageous two-year battle with pancreatic cancer. Tom was born in Dayton, OH on May 30, 1951, to the late Lt. Col. Royce W. Hinchman and the late Ruth Sigl Hinchman. He absolutely adored his beautiful and loving wife, Janet "Jan" Sullivan Hinchman of 26 years.

Mr. Hinchman graduated from Myrtle Beach High School class of 1969 and Clemson University where he received a Bachelor of Science degree in Administrative Management. Professionally, he was in the field of production management where he served as a project development engineer for Milliken & Company, a company from which he retired after forty years. Tom was an active member and Past President of the Anderson Kiwanis Club, and he served on the board of GAMAC (Greater Anderson Musical Arts Consortium). Mr. Hinchman was a very involved member at Central Presbyterian Church in Anderson, where he served in numerous leadership roles. He was an ordained Deacon and Elder and was a Sunday School teacher. Most recently, Tom served as Chair of the Pastor Nominating Committee.

In addition to his wife, Jan, Tom is survived by a son, Jason Dearing Hinchman of Belmont, NC; a daughter, Merrell Hinchman Harbin and her husband, Brian, of Anderson; two brothers, Royce W. Hinchman, Jr. of Topeka, KS, and Donald Hinchman of Southport, OH; three sisters, Shari M. Hinchman, and her daughter, Melissa Hinchman, of Orlando, FL, Terilynn Hinchman of Jeffersonville, IN and Judy H. Brammer of Huntington, WV. Also surviving are grandchildren who he adored, Deacon James Hinchman of Belmont, NC, and Tanner Harbin of Anderson, SC.

In addition to his parents, Tom was preceded in death by his first wife, Jane Ann D. Hinchman who died in 1997; and a brother, Edward Hinchman.

The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, February 25, 2024, from 4:00 pm – 6:00 pm. A Service to Celebrate the Resurrection and the Life of Tom Hinchman will be held on Monday, February 26, 2024, at 2:00 pm at Central Presbyterian Church, with Reverend Dr. Michael York and Reverend Noelle Read officiating. The family will visit those unable to attend the Sunday visitation in the church Fellowship Hall foyer following the service.
