Thomas Gerald Tarter, age 89, of Anderson, SC, passed away Saturday, April 15, 2023. Born January 9, 1934, in Norwood, OH, he was the son of the late Thomas Cole Tarter and Susan Snell Tarter. He was married to Shirley Mae Brookshire Tarter until her death on February 23, 2023. He was also preceded in death by his son, Thomas G. Tarter, Jr.; granddaughter, Natalie Rabideau; and sister-in-law, Pauline McMahan. Thomas was a graduate of the University of Cincinnati where he was a member of the SAE Fraternity and was retired from Owens Corning. He was a man of many talents and met his wife Shirley while he was a DJ. Music was his passion and he was a concert pianist, a clarinetist, a saxophonist, a member of a 16 piece jazz band, and a member of the Owens Corning Barber Shop Quartet in which he was the tenor. His love for his family and friends was endless and he will be missed by all who knew and loved him. He is survived by his daughters, Vanessa Tarter Rhodes (Bryan) of Fountain Inn, SC, and Valerie Tarter Anzalone (Sal) of Spring Hill, FL; daughter-in-law, Jessica Tarter of Irmo, SC; grandchildren, Megan Tarter Cocke (David), Rebecca Tarter, Thomas G. Tarter, III (Lauren), Noelle Irvin (Mitch), Jennifer Rabideau, Malone Rhodes Lancaster (Benton), and Kohl Rhodes; great grandchildren, Ever Tarter, Thomas G. Tarter, IV, Milo Irvin, Bryan Karter Rhodes, and Paul Benton Lancaster, III; nephews, Dan McMahan (Shawn) and David McMahan (Lisa); and great nephew, Christopher McMahan. The family will receive friends on Sunday, April 23, 2023, from 5:00 until 7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. No public service will be held.
