Mary Thomasene Stone Foster, age 94, of Anderson, SC, passed away peacefully on Monday, September 29, 2025, at Rainey Hospice House.
Born October 13, 1930, in Greenville, SC, she was the daughter of the late Thomas Allred Stone and Mildred Lula Harrison Stone. She was married for 57 years to Traverse Scofield Foster, Jr. until his death in 2014. She was preceded in death by her sisters, Mildred Woodward, Jessie Simpson, Elizabeth Davis, and Judy Greenhalgh.
Thomasene was a graduate of Greenville High School and attended Furman University. She was the Vice President of Foster Construction Company. She was a long-time member of First Baptist Church, Greenville and later joined Fair Play Presbyterian Church. She attended First Presbyterian Church, Anderson, where she loved participating in the arts and ceramic ministry. She was famous with her family for her macaroni and cheese and her apple pies. She enjoyed both the beach and the mountains. Thomasene was a kind and caring wife, mother, Grandmommy, and great Grandmom. She was devoted to her family. Hearing her great grandchildren sing, "You are my Sunshine" always brought a smile to her face.
She is survived by her daughter, Mary Stone Foster Barber (Robert) of Mt. Pleasant, SC; sons, Traverse Scofield Foster, III (Deborah) of Anderson, SC, and Robert Chandler Foster of Anderson, SC; sister, Catherine Joy of Beavercreek OH; grandchildren, Robert Harrison Barber, John Chandler Barber (Jessica), Traverse Scofield Foster, IV (Lauren), Gardner Jane Foster Bryson (Brian), and Thomas Stone Foster; and great grandchildren, Ezra, Asher, Kayce, Piper, Fields, Willow, Abel, Nora, and Lillie.
The family will receive friends on October 11, 2025, from 11:30 am until 12:30 pm at The Welcome Center of First Presbyterian Church of Anderson. The funeral service will begin at 1:00 pm with Rev. Dr. Maren Sonstegard-Spray and Rev. Will Nickles officiating. Committal will follow at Woodlawn Memorial Park in Greenville at 3:00 pm.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to First Presbyterian Church (Assistance Fund).
