Tommy Wayne Powell, devoted husband to Sunny Nimmons Powell, met his Savior August 2, 2022. Tommy was born July 13, 1946, to the late Sara Blume Powell and Guy Edward Powell in Anderson, SC. Tommy started work as a teenager at Abney Mills' Anderson Mill operating the gym/bowling alley. He was employed at Lowenstein, later Spring Industries' Wamsutta Mills for 36 years, until it's closing. He went to Adult Ed and was proud to say he got his GED in less than 6 months time of study. He later worked at AnMed Health in the ER under EVS retiring after 4 years of service. He was an amazing son, brother, uncle, husband, dad, son-in-law and brother-in-law who will be truly missed. In addition to his parents, Tommy was also predeceased by his brother, Larry Powell; and sisters, Barbara P. Lollis and her husband J.C., and Brenda Powell. Left to cherish his memory is his loving wife of over 47 years, Sunny; sons, John Corn (Michelle) of Mocksville, NC, and Todd Powell (Jessica) of Anderson, SC; his much loved grandchildren, Blake (Hannah) and Ryker Corn of NC, and Thomas, Julianna, and Lucas Powell of Anderson, SC; a special young woman, Monica Corrigan (Chuck) of Gig Harbor, WA; brother, Doyle Powell (Pat); sister-in-law, Linda Powell; many nieces and nephews; and friends, neighbors and family at Gethsemane Baptist Temple. A special thank you to Dr. Marie Kiang and her staff, Dr. Vidal Despradel and his staff, Anderson Radiation and their staff, Dr. John Doster and his staff and Hospice of the Upstate for the love and care they provided Tommy during his battle with cancer. The family will receive friends Saturday, August 6, 2022, from 1:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will follow visitation in the Chapel at 3:30 p.m. with Rev. Sam Duncan officiating. Burial will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. Flowers will be accepted, and memorial contributions may be made to the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E.
