Traverse S. Foster, Jr. Anderson, SC Traverse Scofield Foster, Jr., age 85, of Anderson, SC passed away on Thursday, June 12, 2014, at the Rainey Hospice House. Born in Atlanta GA, on January 12, 1929, he was the son of the late Traverse Scofield Foster, Sr. and the late Harriett Chandler Foster. He earned a degree in Civil Engineering from Clemson University in 1950, where he was a member of the ROTC and Pershing Rifles. Traverse was the President and owner of Foster Construction for 30 years in Greenville until his retirement. He was a member of First Baptist Church Greenville, and upon moving to Anderson in 1983, he later became a member of Fair Play Presbyterian Church. He was an avid outdoorsman, swimmer and fisherman, having earned the rank of Eagle Scout and being involved with many activities at Camp Old Indian. Traverse was a member of the Augusta Road Kiwanis Club of Greenville. He is survived by his loving wife of 57 years, Thomasene Stone Foster; a daughter, Mary Stone Foster Barber and her husband Robert, of Florence, SC; two sons, Traverse Scofield Foster, III and his wife Deborah and Robert Chandler Foster and his wife Leah, all of Anderson; a sister, Anne Provence, of Greenville, SC; and six grandchildren, Harrison and Chandler Barber, Scofield and his wife Lauren Foster, Janie And Stone Foster and Rachel Greene. The Funeral Service will be held at 2:00 p.m, on Friday, June 20, 2014, at First Presbyterian Church with Reverend Caroline East Berardi and Reverend Allyson Helvie officiating. The committal service will follow at 3:45 p.m. at Woodlawn Memorial Park, Greenville, SC. Following the committal service, the family will gather for one hour of visitation at Woodlawn Funeral Home Reception Center. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC, or to the Alzheimer's Association of Anderson, 4124 Clemson Blvd. Anderson, SC 29621.
