Valerie Jeanne Van Nus, age 64, of Anderson, SC, passed away Monday, November 1, 2021, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born October 1, 1957, in London, England, she was the daughter of the late Nancy Van Nus Slavik. Valerie received her master's degree from Furman University. She was a teacher and principal in both Anderson School District 3 and 5. Valerie was passionate about her job, was an excellent teacher, and loved all of her students. She enjoyed spending time with her children and grandchildren and was a wonderful mother and grandmother. She is survived by her children, Alicia Neal and Matthew Neal; step father, Joseph Slavik; brother, Keith Miller; grandchildren, Cooper Boyles, Harper Grace Boyles, and Tinsley Evans; and former husband, Robert Neal. The family will receive friends Tuesday, November 9, 2021, from noon to 1:30 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Rev. Dwight Greene officiating. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Jude Children's Research Hospital, 501 St. Jude Place, Memphis, TN 38105.
