VERNELL HEAD DURHAM Vernell Jeanette Head Durham, age 87, of 224 Seabright Circle, Cross Hill, SC, formerly of Anderson, entered the gates of heaven on May 19, 2014, at Hospice Care of the Piedmont in Greenwood, SC, surrounded by her loving daughters LaVerne Zimmerman, wife of Curtis Zimmerman of Cross Hill, SC, and Jean Lueck, wife of Douglas Lueck of Anderson. Born in Seneca on October 9, 1926, she was the daughter of the late Albert Stephens Head and the late Beulah Lucas Head. She was the loving and devoted wife of the late Vernon Richard Durham until his death in 1999. She was a member of Eureka Baptist Church in Anderson, SC, and worked until retirement in the textile industry. Her activities included The Young at Hearts senior group, the Hardee's breakfast bunch, sewing, woodworking, gardening, fishing and her grandchildren and great-grandson. In addition to her daughters, she is survived by granddaughters Shannon Crawford-Allen and Murphy Lueck, and great grandson, Grayson Allen; also surviving are numerous nieces and nephews. In addition to her parents and her husband, Vernon, Vernell was preceded in death by sisters, Bell Simmons, Alice Watt, Margie Phillips, Christine Thomas-Taylor, and Shirley Rogers; and brothers, Marvin, Romain, and R.V. Head. Mrs. Durham was the last surviving member of her immediate family. The funeral service will be held on Wednesday, May 21, 2014, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Ron Fousek and Rev. Jerry Durham officiating. Interment will follow in the Fant's Grove Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will receive friends on Wednesday at The McDougald Funeral Home from 12 noon until 1:30 p.m. Donations in memory of Mrs. Durham may be made to Hospice Care of the Piedmont, 408 W.
