Vernon Howard Culberson, age 75, of 4605 Belton Highway, Anderson, passed away at his residence at the Richard Campbell Veteran's Home on Saturday, July 13, 2013. Born in Anderson, he was the son of the late A. M. Culberson and the late Ida Rhodes Culberson. He was the husband of the late Linda Williams Culberson until her death in 2002. Mr. Culberson was an electrician, retired from the Savannah River Nuclear Site in Aiken. He proudly served his country in the US Army, and was a member of Masonic Lodge 68 where he was very active in Hiram Lodge. He was devoted to his grandchildren, and was a fan of NASCAR. Vernon attended Gethsemane Baptist Temple. Survivors include a son, Aaron Culberson of Honea Path; a daughter, Lee Brock of Anderson; 2 brothers, Doug Culberson and his wife, Ferrell, of Longwood, FL, Thomas Culberson and his wife, Judy, of Anderson; 3 sisters, Carrie Sue Charping of Anderson, Helen McLane and husband, Dewey, of Anderson, and Frances Hardy and husband, Lattie, of Overgaard, AZ; 4 grandchildren, Rebecca Culberson, Cameron Brock, Autumn Culberson, and Emma Culberson. In addition to his parents and his wife, Linda, Vernon was preceded in death by 3 brothers, James, Hogan and Grady Culberson. A funeral service to celebrate the life of Vernon Culberson will be held on Wednesday, July 17, 2013, at 11 AM at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Tony Smith officiating. Interment will follow at New Silver Brook Cemetery. The family is at the residence of Lee Brock, 310 Lewis Street, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, July 16, 2013, from 6 PM until 8 PM. The family suggests contributions in honor of Mr. Culberson be made to Shriners Children's Hospital, 950 W. Faris Road, Greenville, SC 29605.
