Virginia Mae Gibert Powell, age 91, passed away on Saturday, June 25, 2016 at Rainey Hospice House. Born in Abbeville, SC on May 15, 1925, she was the daughter of the late Charlie Gibert and the late Lillian Mae Gibert Norwood. Virginia worked in retail where she retired. She enjoyed sewing, cooking and most of all, spending time with her family. She is survived by her sons, John F. Powell, Jr. (Brenda) and Freddy Powell (Vickie); and many grands. In addition to her parents, she was preceded in death by her husband, John F. Powell, Sr.; a sister, Marie Gibert Rowland; and brothers, Albert and Preston Lee Norwood. A Graveside Service will be held at Forest Lawn Memorial Park on Tuesday, June 28, 2016, at 11:00 a.m. with the Reverend Joe Floyd Stansell, Jr. officiating. The family will be at their respective homes. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Rainey Hospice House at 1835 Rogers Rd., Anderson, SC 29621.
