Prater and formerly of the Welcome Community, passed away on Wednesday, July 9, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Anderson County, SC on April 27, 1928, Mrs. Prater was a daughter of the late Clarence and Nelle Swaney McCoy. She was a homemaker and a member of New Prospect Baptist Church.Survivors include her son, Donnie Prater and his wife, Melanie Prater of Hot Springs, NC; daughter, Rita Prater Burgess and her husband, Hugh Burgess of Anderson, SC; sisters, Carol Todd of Sandy Springs, SC and Pearl Avant of Georgetown, SC. Three grandchildren, Brandon Prater Burgess and his wife, Alex Burgess, Johnathan Prater Burgess and Lalah Prater and one great-grandson, Oscar Burgess also survive.A Memorial Service will be held at Welcome Baptist Church on Friday, July 11, 2008 at 1:00 pm conducted by William R. West, Jr., and Hugh Burgess. A Private Family Committal Service will be held in the church cemetery prior to the memorial service. In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or to Welcome Baptist Church, P.O.
