Virginia Louise "Jinx" Thomas, age 93, of Anderson, SC, entered into the presence of her Heavenly Father on Tuesday, January 26, 2021 at Morningside of Anderson. Born April 2, 1927 in Montandon, PA, she was the daughter of the late Luther and Hazel (Bergenstock) Burrey. She was married for 69 years to David George Thomas until his death in December 2018. Virginia is a graduate of East Stroudsburg University of Pennsylvania. She was a quick study and could always be found near the head of her class. After marrying Dave Thomas, they lived and worked in Berea, OH and Binghamton, NY. Following her husband's retirement, they moved to Anderson, SC. She was a member of the AAUW, League of Women Voters, and the Women's Club of Anderson. Virginia was a former gymnast and tennis player and could be found each day with her husband, a swimmer, at the Anderson YMCA. She enjoyed going to the coast and flying kites on the beach. She also played the piano and organ and could sing the alto part to just about any hymn. Virginia was a member of Central Presbyterian Church where she previously served as an elder. She is survived by her daughter, Diana E. Thomas of Coppell, TX; sisters Loretta Roberson of Lewisburg, PA, and Anna Walter of Mifflinburg, PA; grandchildren, Rebecca Witmer of Chicago, IL, and David Witmer (Kelsey) of Dallas, TX; and great-granddaughter, Emsley Witmer. Also surviving are several nieces and nephews and their families. The family will receive friends on Friday, February 5, 2021 from 1:00-2:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home on Main Street in Anderson. The funeral service will follow in the Chapel at 2:00 pm with entombment in Oaklawn Memorial Gardens Mausoleum afterwards. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Central Presbyterian Church, 1404 N. Boulevard, Anderson, SC 29621.
