IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Wade
Burdette
September 7, 1944 – June 3, 2025
Larry Wade Burdette, known best as Wade, passed away peacefully on June 3, 2025, at Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.
Born September 7, 1944, in Anderson County, South Carolina, Wade lived a full and meaningful life rooted in family, faith, service, and simple joys.
Wade is survived by his devoted and loving wife of 63 years, Linda Hall Burdette, and their three children: Jerry Burdette (Sarah Parnell), Curtis Burdette (DeAnne Gibson), and Kim Hill (Matt). He was a proud grandfather to Lauren Chapman (Dylan), Ashlyn Hutto (Cameron), Gibson Burdette, Houston Burdette (Katie Gibbs), Cole Hill (Elizabeth Shaw), Savannah Hill, Kelly McMahan (Donna Mauldin), Mike McMahan, and Glen McMahan (Pam Patterson), and honorary grandfather to Shannon and Allison Hall's daughters, Pariss Hall Smith (Bradley) and Brooke Hall Young (Ryan). Wade's legacy lives on through a growing family tree that includes numerous great-grandchildren, Peyton, Brantly C., Greyson, Maverick, Caden, Adylyn, Rylan, Mackenzie, Jacob M, Justin, Jacob P., Drew, Ashleigh, and Brantley W., and great-great-grandchildren, Malaki and DJ with three more expected later this year.
He was preceded in death by his parents, Griffin and Bertha Mae Hart Burdette; his brother, William "Billy" Burdette; and his best friend, Bennie Hall.
Wade proudly served his community through a 25-year career in law enforcement, working with the Anderson County and Abbeville County Sheriff's Departments. After retiring from official service, he stayed active and engaged, working part-time jobs at Hall's Towing, Foundry and Steel, White Jones Hardware, Lowe's Home Improvement, and more.
A craftsman at heart, Wade had a lifelong passion for woodworking, creating practical and cherished projects for family, friends, and neighbors near and far.
For many years, Wade spearheaded cooking his special recipe stew, frequently as a fundraiser for local churches and organizations. Eventually, he used his craftsman skills to construct a "stew house," where he and a revolving, but dedicated, crew cooked and served hundreds of quarts of stew.
He was also an avid fisherman, especially at Lake Marion near Santee, SC, where he chased after the "Big Cats" with his guide Mike Vinson and many fishing buddies, Ricky, Scotty, Jimmy, Bennie, Grandson Cole, and many more. If you were ever in a conversation with Wade about fishing, you likely walked away with an invitation to join him on the water.
In recent years, Wade had taken up raising chickens and quickly discovered the joys (and surprises) of "chicken math." He loved sharing fresh eggs with family and neighbors — one more way he expressed care for those around him.
Above all, Wade was a family man who adored his grandchildren and great-grandchildren. He delighted in making them laugh with his quick wit and playful stories, often using his shortened "nub" finger (a youthful accident in his late teens at True Temper) to charm and amuse.
Wade's life was marked by quiet generosity, deep commitment, and a warm sense of humor that endeared him to everyone he met.
The family will receive friends on Thursday, June 5, 2025, from 6:00-8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held on Friday, June 6, 2025, at 1:00 pm at Iva City Cemetery with Rev. Jerry Gray officiating.
In lieu of flowers, the family asks that memorial donations be made to Rainey Hospice House or Iva First Baptist Church, two places that meant a great deal to Wade and his loved ones.
The family will be at the home.
