Wade Hampton Elrod Wade Hampton Elrod, 89 of Greenville, SC, went home to be with his Lord & Savior on Monday, January 12, 2015 at Rainey Hospice House. Born in the Piercetown Community, Anderson County, SC on November 24, 1925, he was the son of the late Waymon Frederick Elrod and Mamie Campbell Elrod. Mr. Elrod was a U.S. Army Veteran of WWII, and served in the 6th Infantry Division in the Philippines: Corporal, Military Police. He retired as Captain of District 3 of the South Carolina Highway Patrol after a career of 37 years. Mr. Elrod was awarded The Order of the Palmetto by Governor Carroll Campbell in 1988. He was also a member of West Gantt Baptist Church. He is survived by his loving daughter, Maggie Pearl Elrod of Williamston. He leaves behind many nieces and nephews, friends and neighbors. He was the loving husband of Luree Stanley Elrod, wife of 70 years, who predeceased him on October, 2014. They were married on August 13, 1944. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by a brother, Elbert Lee Elrod and a sister, Hazel Elrod Bowman. He was the last member of his immediate family. The Graveside Service will be held on Thursday, January 15, 2015, at 11:00 am at Friendship Baptist Church Cemetery, officiated by Pastor Dale Hart The family will receive friends at the McDougald Funeral Home on Wednesday, January 14, 2015 from 5:00 pm to 7:00 pm, and Thursday from 10:00 am to 11:00 am at the cemetery. Flowers will be accepted or memorials may be made to Friendship Baptist Church, 5600 Highway 81 North, Williamston, SC 29697 or Hospice of the Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621. The family requests that any active, former and retired members of the SC Highway Patrol serve as Honorary Escorts during the funeral service.
