WALTER 'WALT' ATKINSON August 17, 1922 - July 2, 2006CENTRAL, SCMr. Walter Hampton Atkinson, age 83, husband of Sadie Canup Atkinson of 446 Old Shirley Road, died Sunday, July 02, 2006 at the Hospice House in Anderson, SC.Born in Pickens County on August 17, 1922, Mr. Atkinson was the son of the late Walter McDuffie Atkinson and Flossie Maybelle Haddle Atkinson. He was retired from Mount Vernon Mills in LaFrance, SC and was a member of Mount Zion United Methodist Church in Central where he served in many capacities. Walter and Sadie celebrated their sixty-fourth wedding anniversary on June 26, 2006. Survivors include his wife, Sadie Canup Atkinson of the home; daughters, Janet Hawkins and her husband, Reverend Danny Hawkins of Wilmington, NC, Joyce Bryant and her husband, Eddie Bryant and Judy Hayes and her husband, Oliver Hayes, all of Anderson, SC; sisters, Evelyn Crane of Central, SC and Sara Coker and her husband, Lory of Williamston, SC; four grandchildren, Angie H. Allen and her husband, Ronald, Shannon LeRoy, and her husband, Brandon, Matthew Bryant and Kayla Hayes and two great-grandchildren, Sydney Allen and Alle LeRoy.The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, July 5, 2006 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Reverends Warren Ashmore and Danny Hawkins. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Masonic Rites. The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, July 4, 2006 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the home of his daughter, Joyce Bryant, 99 Whisper Lane, Anderson, SC.Flowers are optional.
