AZELKAS Walter Gabriel Azelkas, age 80, of 408 McGee Road, passed away on Friday, May 30, 2014, at AnMed Health Medical Center as a result of complications from non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. He died peacefully and quietly while holding the hand of Sandy, his wife of 37 years. Born on March 26, 1934, in Levittown, PA, he was the son of the late Gabriel and Margaret Azelkas. Walt proudly served his country in the US Army, after which he attended and graduated from Clemson University in 1975 with a B.S. degree in Engineering. He was an engineer for Singer/Ryobi for 30 years, and later was a Carpet Pro at Home Depot in Anderson for 11 years until his health forced his retirement in 2009. A member of Homeland Park Baptist Church, Mr. Azelkas was raised Roman Catholic but became a Baptist after marrying Sandy. He taught T-Ball in Anderson when first moving here in the early 70's, and was a member of Anderson Elks Lodge. He was an avid golfer, playing in several Singer golf tournaments. Walt was twice married, first to Joanne Azelkas Callander of Columbia. He is survived by his wife, Sandy G. Azelkas of the residence; sons Mark Azelkas (Becky) of Anderson and Gabe and Austin Azelkas, both of the residence; daughters, Janet Hatch (Craig) of Columbia, Lisa Bluford (Charles) of Mountville, SC, and Frances Azalkas of the residence; step-daughters, Tammy Mitchell Jordan of St. Petersburg, FL, and Ann Marcie (Mike) of Anderson; a sister, Pat Leonard (Vincent) of Long Island, NY; also surviving are 6 grandchildren and several great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Walt was preceded in death by sisters Mary Signoski and Alice Thomas. The Azelkas family will be at the residence, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Sunday, June 1, 2014, from 2 p.m. until 4 p.m. A Memorial Service to honor and celebrate the life of Walter Azelkas will be held on Monday, June 2, 2014, at 4 p.m. in the chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev.
