Walter A. Halbig of Anderson, South Carolina died Thursday, August 6th, 2026, at AnMed Hospital. He was 91 years old.

Born in Syracuse, New York in 1935, Walter graduated from Smith Technical High School and then served in the Navy for over three years. He married Sharlynne Roloson in 1963. Together they had three sons, David, Edward and Gregory, and while working and raising a family, he earned a bachelor's degree from Syracuse University in Electrical Engineering. He worked in telecommunications throughout his career, pioneering technologies that are now everyday conveniences. He appreciated sports cars and fast boats, and the science and art of photography. He enjoyed building with his hands and his mind. He was a congregant at St. Joseph Catholic Church and School in Anderson.

He is survived by Sharlynne, his wife of 63 years, his siblings William and Julia, his three sons, seven grandchildren and two great-grandchildren.

The family will receive friends on Monday, August 17, 2026 from 5:00-7:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral mass will be held on Tuesday, August 18, 2026, at 11:30  am at St. Joseph Catholic Church. Burial will be at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery at 1:00 PM.

Walter is preceded in death by his sisters Alice and Barbara.
