'LINDY' HARRIS February 14, 1929 - June 8, 2007ANDERSON, SCMr. Walter Leonard Harris, age 78, husband of Rachel Freeman Harris of Anderson, SC, died Friday, June 08, 2007 at the Hospice House in Anderson.Born in Anderson County, SC on February 14, 1929, to the late Claude and Eva Yeargin Harris. He was retired from Owens Corning Fiberglas after 35 years of service. Known as 'Papa Rabbit' to his daughter's friends, he enjoyed rambling in the woods looking for walking sticks that he made and gave away to anyone that needed it. At Christmas time, he was called on to play Santa Claus for the children of friends and family in their homes and he delivered goody bags to the residents of several nursing homes. He taught Sunday School at the Little Holiness Church for 14 years and most recently, at Faith Memorial Tabernacle for the last two years. Survivors include his wife, Rachel Freeman Harris of the home; daughters, Connie Powell and husband, Charles of Anderson, Debra Traynum, Diane Dyar and husband, Millard and Kay Crittendon, all of Starr; brothers, Marshall, Chester and Earl Harris all of Anderson, Frank Harris of Walhalla, Calvin Harris of Kingsport, GA and Ned Harris of McKinney, TX; sisters, Jane Green of Anderson and Beth English of Seneca. Four grandchildren and eight great-grandchildren also survive.The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, June 11, 2007 at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with the Reverends Alma Yates and Troy Myers officiating.
