WALTER A. HOLCOMBE Walter Alfred "Bubba" Holcombe, age 90, of 1002 East River Street, died peacefully on Monday, February 23, 2015, at his home. Born in Anderson on October 1, 1924, he was the son of the late Glenn Holcombe and the late Mabel Murphy Holcombe. He proudly served his country in the US Navy during WW II aboard the USS Charles Carroll. Following his service in the Navy, Walter was a fireman in the City of Anderson Fire Department where he served 40 years and retired as a Captain. He was a hunter, a pilot, a fisherman and a scuba diver. Mr. Holcombe was a member of First Presbyterian Church. Survivors include his son, Stanley Glenn Holcombe and his wife, Sharon, of Anderson; two grandchildren, Megan Wynn of Asheville, NC, and Devon Holcombe and his wife, Michele of Anderson; two great grandchildren, Christian Wynn and Paisley Holcombe; and a great-great grandchild, Arabella Wynn of Anderson; also surviving are a number of nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Walter was preceded in death by his wife of 60 years, Margaret Elizabeth Holliday Holcombe; a sister, Louise Hilliard; and a grandson, SSgt. Christopher Holcombe, USMC, who died while in service. A funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Walter A. Holcombe will be held on Saturday, February 28, 2015, at 2 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Dr. Dennis Tedder officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Saturday, February 28, 2015, from 12 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Mr. Holcombe may be made to the Anderson Fire Department Honor Guard, 400 South McDuffie Street, Anderson, SC 29624.
