Ward Matthew Swaney, 83, of Pendleton, SC passed away on Monday, November 21, 2022, at Prisma Health Baptist Hospital in Easley, SC. Born February 5, 1939, he was a son of the late B. W. Swaney and Lucy Frances Ward Swaney. He was married for 52 years, until her death in 2011, to Carolyn Ann Swaney. Ward worked his entire life as a skilled brick mason and electrician. There was never a job too small or too large; each job was completed to perfection. Ward was a tall man in stature, very humble, kind, gentle, never met a stranger and loved his family. He worked hard to provide for his family and in his spare time, he enjoyed hunting and fishing. Hunting wild game and fishing was another way he provided for his family. Ward was a member of Fants Grove Baptist Church and liked to sing in the church choir. He was always a faithful servant. He is survived by his sons, Kenneth Swaney and Randy Swaney of Pendleton; grandson, Kenny Swaney; sister, Martha Merck; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to his wife and parents, Ward was predeceased by a daughter, Deborah Kay Swaney; brothers Willard, Bill, Woodrow, Hoke, Hovey, John Henry, Clyde and Milford; and sisters, Thelma Roe, Ellen Swaney, and Savannah Rose Donaldson. The family will be at the residence and will receive friends from 2 pm - 3 pm Monday, November 28, 2022, at Fants Grove Baptist Church. The funeral service will follow at 3 pm with Rev.
