Wayne Creswell Gillespie, age 75, of Starr, SC, passed away Saturday, May 4, 2024, at Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home.

Born April 21, 1949, in Anderson, SC, he was a son of the late Cecil B. Gillespie and Mary Madeline Creswell Gillespie. He was also preceded in death by his son, Jeffrey Gillespie; and brother, Benson Gillespie.

Rabbit was a proud veteran of the United States Army and was stationed at Fort Ord California, Thailand, and Germany. His hobbies included fishing and hunting rabbits.

He is survived by his daughter, Misty Bridges and her husband Shane; granddaughters, Kelsey Johnson (Garrett), and Kerri Bridges; and great grandson, Austin Johnson.

The family will receive friends Monday, May 13, 2024, at 12:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home with a processional to begin at 1:30 to M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm at the cemetery with Campbell Patriots rendering military honors.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Richard M. Campbell Veterans Nursing Home, 4605 Belton Hwy., Anderson, SC 29621, or the Cancer Association of Anderson, 215 E Calhoun St, Anderson, SC 29621.
