COMER, GA WELDON L. KAY December 24, 1925 - April 29, 2012 Weldon L. "Tottie" Kay, age 86, of Comer, GA, went home to be with the Lord and his wife on Sunday, April 29, 2012. He was a resident of the Ty Cobb Nursing Home. Born in Anderson, Mr. Kay was a son of the late Handy Weldon Kay and the late Julia Mae Adams Kay. Mr. Kay and his wife, the late Margaret Suttles Kay, were happily married for 62 years. Mr. Kay served his country proudly in the US Navy, having sailed on board the USS Missouri during WWII. He was present during the signing of the peace treaty between the American and Japanese governments which took place aboard his ship, with General Douglas McArthur as a witness to the ceremony. Upon his return from the war, Weldon was active with his brother, Frank Earle, in the family business, Kay's Glass Shop in Anderson, which was established by his father. Survivors include a son, Gary L. Kay, daughters Joyce Kay Grogan and Jeanne Kay Davis (Steven), all of Anderson; grandchildren, Jason M. Grogan (Maria) of Madrid, Spain, David M. Grogan of Anderson, Kelly Marie Smith of Myrtle Beach, SC, Matthew Steven Davis of Anderson; and a great-granddaughter Sofia Grogan Millan of Madrid, Spain. In addition to his parents and his wife, Margaret, Tottie was preceded in death by a brother, Frank Earle Kay, and sisters, Geneva Kay Brown and Edna Ruth Crain. He was the last surviving member of his immediate family. Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 6, 2012, at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel at 3 PM, with Allan Brown officiating. Interment will follow at First Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Iva. The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home Sunday from 2 PM until 2:45 PM. The family would like to thank the Ty Cobb Healthcare for the great care they gave their father during his residency. They would also like to thank the staff of Odyssey Hospice who was most helpful in providing care to their father. Services: Funeral services will be held Sunday, May 6, 2012, at The McDougald Funeral Home Chapel at 3 PM, with Allan Brown officiating. Interment will follow at First Creek Baptist Church Cemetery, Iva. Visitation: The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home Sunday from 2 PM until 2:45 PM.
