Wendell Garland Gunter, age 64, of Townville, SC, devoted husband to Peggy Jo Carter Gunter, passed away Saturday, January 29, 2022, at AnMed Health Medical Center. Born July 26, 1957, in Anderson, SC, he is the son of Geneva Coggins Gunter and the late Ellis Jesse Gunter. He proudly served his country in the United States Army in the Infantry and Special Forces at Fort Bragg in the 82nd Airborne Division and saw combat in Granada in 1983. After earning his A.S. degree he then went on to begin his career at Timken Manufacturing where he later retired. Wendell loved playing volleyball and basketball, tinkering with any small engine, and most of all he lived to help other people. In addition to his loving wife, and mother, he is survived by his children, Thomas Allen Gunter (Hannah), and Jacob Brian Gunter; step-children, Krystal Jones Partain, and Colby Dale Jones; brother, Ellis Jesse Gunter, Jr.; sisters, Althea Lynn Whitfield, Rebecca Ann Willis, and Ruth Naomi Jackson; seven grandchildren; and numerous nieces and nephews. The family will receive friends Sunday, February 6, 2022, from 2:00 p.m. until 3:00 p.m. at Word Tabernacle. A memorial service will follow visitation at 3:00 p.m. with Rev. Thomas Gunter officiating. The family will be at the home of his mother.
