He was a graduate of Anderson Boy's High School. He was retired with 32 years of service as the Director of Wastewater Treatment Division, for the City of Anderson. He attended Hope Fellowship Church.. Survivors include his wife of 53 years, Gail Thompson McConnell; son, Mark McConnell and his wife, Kathy; daughters, Elaine Perry and her husband, Arnold, Lizette Shaw and her husband, Johnny, seven grandchildren and five great-grandchildren, all of Anderson, SC. Also surviving are his brother, Derrill McConnell, and his sisters, Juanita Shirley, Janice Cheek, Sandra Meece, and Pam McConnell, and a sister-in-law, Joy Smith, all of Anderson, SC. The Funeral Service will be held on Monday, January 4, 2010 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by Reverends Tim Gautreaux, Mark Gasque, and Chad McConnell.
