illard Hursey, age 82, passed away on November 4, 2017, at his residence surrounded by his beloved family.
Born in Broxton, GA, on February, 24, 1935, he was the son of the late John Mahoney Hursey and the late Mary Carver Hursey. Willard proudly served his country in the Unites States Navy during the Korean War. He continued onto work as the Assistant Manager of Materiel Services at Emory University where he later retired. He attended Oakdale Baptist Church.
Willard is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Marie Bridges Hursey; a son, Steven Ricky Hursey (Carol) of Fair Play, SC; a daughter, Deborah Rene Hursey Bolen (Michael) of Winder, GA; a brother, Frank Merritt (Marilyn) of Easley, SC; grandchildren, Lisa Weathers of Atlanta, GA, Bryan Weathers (Alisha) of Jefferson, GA, and William Elijah Hursey USAF; great-grandchildren, Thomas and Will Weathers; one special brother-in-law and several special sister-in-law's; and nieces and nephews.
In addition to his parents, Willard was preceded in death by a brother, Lebron Merritt; father and mother-in-law, Tom and Thelma Bridges; and three special brother-in-law's.
The family will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, November 7, 2017, from 12:00 p.m. until 1:30 p.m. The funeral service will be held at 2:00 p.m. following visitation on Tuesday in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Dr. Rev. David Blizzard officiating. A private family burial with military honors will follow at M.J. "Dolly" Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
Flowers will be accepted, and memorials may be made to Calvary Home for Children, 110 Calvary Home Cir, Anderson, SC 29621.
