'BILL' ANDREWS August 24, 1940 - February 23, 2009ANDERSON, SCWilliam Douglas Andrews, age 68, after a long and courageous battle with cancer, left his earthly home to live in heaven with his Lord and Savior Jesus Christ. He passed away at his home, surrounded by his family who lovingly cared for him throughout his illness. His gentle spirit and faith in God was evident to all who were with him during his time of sickness.Born August 24, 1940, in Anderson, SC, he was the son of the late Ernest Lorenzo Andrews and Ollie Martin Welborn. He is survived by his wife of 44 years, Evelyn Ellison Andrews; three daughters: Deborah Carson and husband, Scott; Donna Bratcher and husband, Robert; Jill Bramlett and husband, Wes; one son, Jonathan Andrews; two sisters, Linda Meredith and Sylvia Garrett; and eleven grandchildren who called him 'Papa Mills'.Mr. Andrews entered the service in 1957. After serving in the Army, he returned to Anderson where he met and married Evelyn Ellison. He was a loving husband and father who worked hard throughout his life to provide for his family. He retired from the Michelin Corporation in 2001 and then worked for Anderson University until the time of his illness.Mr. Andrews was a skilled carpenter and painter. He enjoyed reading, fishing and spending time with this family. He held a great love for his country and was very knowledgeable of US and military history.The family would like to express a heartfelt thank you to those who prayed and ministered to them throughout Mr. Andrews' illness. A special note of thanks to the doctors and staff of Piedmont Surgical Associates and Hospice of the Upstate for their excellent care and concern. Also, to Bible Baptist Church where he was a member and to his Pastor Ken Whitt.The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, February 25, 2009, at 2:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Ken Whitt.
