BALLARD July 9, 1924 - March 19, 2007HONEA PATH, SCMr. William Henry 'Red' Ballard, age 82, husband of the late Ruth Ivester Stasney Ballard, of 224 Wildwood Drive, and formerly of Anderson, SC, died Monday, March 19, 2007 at The Maples Assisted Living in Honea Path, SC.Born in Anderson, SC on July 9, 1924, he was the son of the late Joseph H. Ballard and Minnie McConnell Ballard. Mr. Ballard was a graduate of Boys' High School and a United States Army Veteran of World War Two. After serving in the war, he had a brief career in textiles and spent the majority of his career as a textile league baseball player. He was a member of Neals Creek Baptist Church and attended Riverside Baptist Church where he had formerly taught Sunday School. Red had many wonderful characteristics-he especially loved being around people, reading, and listening to music. He was an avid sportsman and also enjoyed watching old movies. Red will be remembered for his friendliness, his gentle kindness to others and his generous ways.Survivors include a niece, Cheryl Hernandez and her husband, Al; great-niece, Kim Phillips and her husband, Lanny; great-nephew, Brandon Bailey; three great-great nieces; two great-great nephews; three step-children, Jane S. Shaw and her husband, Bob, Ken Stasney and Portia S. Franklin and her husband, Dick; two step-grandchildren, Darrien Stasney and Thad Franklin and one step-great-granddaughter.In addition to his wife and parents, he was preceded in death by three sisters, Sara Williams, Annie Burriss and Essie Turner.A Graveside Service will be held on Wednesday, March 21, 2007 at 2:30 pm at Old Silverbrook Cemetery officiated by the Reverend Mike Fitzpatrick and Dr. Richard H.
