William Henry Black, age 94, of Anderson, SC, passed away on Friday, September 27, 2024, at Rainey Hospice House.

Born November 9, 1929, in Carlisle, PA, he was a son of the late Raymond Henry Black and Ruth Kopenhaver Black. He was also preceded in death by his first and second wives; and siblings, Robert Black, Francis Black Betts, and Margery Black Dowd.

William was a retired naval officer in the United States Navy and a veteran of the Korean Conflict. He was a skilled chemical engineer and longtime business owner. He had the ability to create or fix just about anything. His talents were evident from the building of his home. He was a charming man that people respected and adored. William created a beautiful life for his family whom he loved and instilled a hard work ethic in his children that continues to this day. He will be greatly missed.

He is survived by his sons, William Henry Black, Jr., David Hatfield Black, Edward Raymond Black (Jeana), Yvonne Leslie Black Gillis (Scott), and Kimberly Black Allyn; grandchildren, Taylor, McKenzie, Eliza, Spencer, Gerrard, and Caroline; 3 great grandchildren; and sister-in-law, Gail Black.

The family will receive friends on Saturday, October 5, 2024, from 1:00-1:45 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. The funeral service will begin at 2:00 pm in the Chapel with Mr. Michael Rippy as celebrant.
