Childers, passed away on Sunday, June 22, 2014 at his residence. Born in York, SC, on October 1, 1920 he was the son of the late Reverend John Childers and Julia Burns Childers. He worked for many years at Abney Mills and later worked for Liberty Life Insurance and Pizza Way in Anderson and most recently at Chick-Fil-A. He enjoyed singing in church quartets and was a member of High Praise Church of God where he sang in the choir. He is survived by a son, Michael "Mike" Childers and his wife, Elaine of Anderson; brother, Floyd I. Childers and his wife, Annie of Anderson; sister, Judy Childers of Anderson; two grandchildren, John Michael "Chili" Childers, and Julia Elaine Childers; three great-grandchildren, Matthew T. Childers, Michael B. Childers and Katherine Hope Childers; and many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents and wife, he was preceded in death by his brothers, Raymond, Jake, J.B. and Coley Childers; sisters, Minnie Vanadore, Lillian Wallace and Nellie Bishop. The Funeral Service will be held on Tuesday, June 24, 2014 at 11:00 am in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Chris Sustar, Reverend Dr. Stoney Abercrombie, Mr. Jon Holmes, and Michael B. Childers officiating. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will be at the residence of his grandson, Jon Michael Childers, 204 Lyttleton Way, in The Governors, Anderson, SC 29621 and will receive friends at the funeral home on Monday, June 23, 2014 from 6:00 pm until 8:00 pm.
