William Carl "Sonny" Gray, III, age 68, passed away on Sunday, June 5, 2016, at St. Francis Hospital in Greenville, SC. Born in Iva, SC, on June 23, 1947, he was the son of the late W.C. Gray, Jr. and the late Martha Lawton Gray. Sonny proudly served his country in the United States Army and retired with the rank of Captain from Anderson Police Department. He worked for the United States Marshall Service after retirement and was an avid cattle farmer. Sonny was a member of Lodge 10 Fraternal Order of Police, Anderson County Cattleman's Association and Good Hope Baptist Church in Starr, SC. He attended First Baptist Church Iva, SC. He is survived by his loving wife, Kathi Callaham Gray; a daughter, Dawn (Tim)Moore, of Myrtle Beach, SC; three grandsons, Christopher (Jessica) White , Cody (Jennifer)White, and Chandler White; two step-grandsons, Andrew Moore, and Matthew Moore; and two great-granddaughters, Josie May White and Jordyn Avery White. He is also survived by his aunt, Betty Jo (Ansel) Adams, as well as many special nieces and nephews. The Funeral Service will be held on Wednesday, June 8, 2016 at 3:30 p.m. at First Baptist Church, Iva, with Reverend Jerry Gray officiating. Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery. The Anderson City Police Department will fold and present the flag, and Anderson County Sheriff's Department will serve as Honor Guard.
