William "John" Johnston, 70, of Pendleton, SC passed away at AnMed Health Medical Center on Friday, July 16, 2021 after a short illness.
Born, July 26, 1950, in California, he was a son of the late William A. Johnston, Sr. and Betty Dutton Johnston. He was a member of the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints.
John retired from a 26-year career in the US Army; honorably discharged as a Colonel. Since then, he has enjoyed a simple life of woodworking and fishing. John loved his family and cherished each moment spent with them.
In addition to his wife, Beverly, and his mother, he is survived by his children Ralph Blackwell of Columbia, SC, Mitch Blackwell (Dana) of Chapin, SC, Levi Blackwell of Raleigh, NC and April Maxwell (Brenton Seifert) of Taylors, SC; brother, Chuck Johnston (Mickey) of Summerville, SC; and eleven grandchildren.
A private family service will be held with military honors. In lieu of flowers please honor John by contributing to a charity of one's choice.
