Obituary

William Clayburn Palmer, age 84, of Anderson, passed away on Monday, November 14, 2016, at AnMed Health Medical Center in Anderson. Born in Townville, SC, he was a son of the late George E. Palmer and Gertie Mae Burdette Palmer. He was preceded in death by his beloved wife of 42 years, Neoma Dilliard Palmer. Clayburn served in the Air Force for 28 years and was stationed in Florida, Hawaii, California, South Carolina and Vietnam. After retiring from the Air Force, he worked in Civil Service for 13 years in Sacramento, California where he also received an Associates Degree. He was a member of Dickson Memorial United Methodist Church in Townville and attended regularly until his declining health prevented him from doing so. An avid baseball fan who always pulled for the Braves, Clayburn was also a gifted singer and was known to break out in song at the most unexpected times, much to the delight of everyone around. He also loved a good joke and would never pass up the opportunity to entertain a crowd with his quick-witted sense of humor. Clayburn was fiercely devoted to his family and his unique and thoughtful nature will be sorely missed. The family would like to extend a special thanks to the wonderful and caring staff at Brookdale of Anderson, formerly known as Anderson Place. He is survived by his nieces, Geri Meredith Kirkley (Ron), Terri Palmer Bruce, and Angie Palmer Foster (Gerald); four great-nephews, Kenneth C. Meredith, Jr., Brian Keith Meredith (Debbie), Robby Paul Meredith and Brandon Bailey (Robyn) and three great-nieces, Amanda Dunn Martin (Kevin), Jennifer Dunn McDonald (Tim) and Melissa Dawn Bailey. The funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Clayburn Palmer will be held on Thursday, November 17, 2016 at 12:30 pm at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home with Reverend Judy C. Hames officiating. Interment will follow at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veteran's Cemetery.
