WILLIAM "BILL" POWELL October 14, 1930 - June 7, 2012 William Robert Powell, age 81, formerly of 310 Jeb Stuart Avenue in Anderson, husband of Martha Lou Gambrell Powell, passed away on Thursday, June 7, 2012 at Greenville Memorial Hospital. Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Lloyd Turner Powell and the late Carro Campbell Powell. He was a 1947 graduate of Boys High, later attending both Anderson College and Lander College. Mr. Powell proudly served his country in the US Army during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Piedmont Natural Gas for over 42 years. William was a member of Midday Lions Club, the Hiram Masonic Lodge and was a Hejaz Shriner. He was an avid golfer and was a member of the Anderson Country Club and was involved for many years with the Lake Becky Association in SC. He was a very active and involved member of Boulevard Baptist Church for over 57 years. William was passionate about many things, among them, his family, his community, his church and his garden. In addition to his loving wife of 61 years, he is survived by his daughters, Cynthia McAlister and her husband Gary of Greer, SC, Janet Patterson and her husband Bobby of Anderson, SC and Pat Madray and her husband Rich of Augusta, GA; two brothers, Wofford Powell of Anderson, SC and Randy Powell of Charlotte, NC; seven grandchildren and seven great-grandchildren, who affectionately knew him as "Papa Bill". In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by his sister-in-laws, Linda Powell and Dot Powell. The Service to celebrate the life of Mr. Powell will be held on Saturday, June 9, 2012 at 2:00pm at Boulevard Baptist Church with Reverend Dr. Johnny F. McKinney officiating. A family committal will be held prior to the service at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum. The family will receive friends following the Service.
