William "Bill" Matthew Rogers, age 86, of Anderson, passed away on Tuesday, March 1, 2016, at National Health Care. Born in Anderson on December 16, 1929, he was the son of the late James Rogers, Sr. and the late Myrtice Ione McCurley Rogers. For sixty-five years, he was the loving and devoted husband of Mary J. Osborne Rogers of Anderson. Following graduation from Anderson Boys' High School, Mr. Rogers proudly served his country in the US Army. Bill retired from A & P Grocery Store after thirty-three years of employment. While with A & P, he was store manager at two of the Anderson locations. In addition to his wife, Mary, Mr. Rogers is survived by two daughters, Debbie Rogers Cole and her husband, Gary, of Anderson, and Donna Rogers Hanks, also of Anderson; two brothers, James Rogers and his wife Dot, and Harold Rogers, both of Anderson; one granddaughter, Amy Hanks Eskew of Anderson, two great-grandchildren, Anna Eskew and Troy Hanks; also surviving are many nieces and nephews. In addition to his parents, Mr. Rogers was preceded in death by a sister, Margie Campbell; a grandson, Trey Hanks, a great-granddaughter, Bailey Lou Hanks, and a beloved pet of sixteen years, Buffy. A funeral service to celebrate and honor the life of Mr. Bill Rogers will be held on Friday, March 4, 2016, at 3:30 p.m. at the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home, with Rev. Brent Lollis and Mr. Harry Osborne officiating. Interment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park.
