William "Sarge" Sanchez, age 93, of Anderson, SC, passed away Saturday, July 15, 2023, at his residence. Born July 3rd, 1930, in Bronx, New York, he was the son of the late Raymond Sanchez and Manuela Segarra Sanchez. He was also preceded in death by his son, Billy; brothers, Joe and Raymond; and sisters Paulita and Maria. William "Sarge" was a devoted member of St. George's Episcopal Church, and worked as a tutor, mentor, and youth leader in the community and various churches. "Sarge" had a passion for sports, umpiring in Anderson and Simpsonville, South Carolina, as well as Cooper's Town, New York. He played for the Blue Devil's, a local semi-professional football team. He was a United States Army Veteran and served our country for twenty-two and a half years. He will be remembered for the love he had for his family, friends, and youth in the community. In addition to his wife Bertha Sanchez, he is survived by his sons, Gilbert Sanchez (Debbie), of Las Cruces, NM, Michael Sanchez (Lisa), of Columbia, SC, and Dennis Sanchez (Pam), of Anderson, SC; daughters, Mary Beth Gaillard (Lee), of Anderson, SC, and Tina Parker (Danny), of Anderson, SC; a sister, Ramona Marrero, of New York, NY; grandchildren, Rebekah South (Tyler), Jonathan Sanchez, Brendan Sanchez (Felicia), Austin Sanchez (Katey), Matthew Sanchez (Rachel), Christopher Gaillard (Katelyn Spelts), Jessica Roper (David), Kent Parker (Savannah), Chase Parker (Makayla Henry); and 18 great-granchildren. A visitation will be held Thursday evening, July 20, 2023, from 5:00 pm to 8:00 pm at The McDougald Funeral Home. A service honoring Mr. Sanchez will be held on Friday, July 21, 2023 at 2:00 pm at St. Georges Episcopal Church, with the Rev. Susan Louttit-Hardaway officiating. A private burial will be scheduled at "MJ' Dolly Cooper Veterans Cemetery.
