William DeVanie Shirley, age 87, passed away on Friday, July 17, 2015, at his residence. Born in Sanford, FL, on November 11, 1927, he was the son of the late William Adger Shirley and the late M. Elizabeth Johnson Shirley. He proudly served his country in the United States Air Force and earned an accounting degree from Forrest College. He retired from the Air Force in 1970 and was employed with The Employment Security Commission, retiring from there in 1989. William was an active member of Belton Presbyterian Church. He is survived by his loving wife of 60 years, Rose Lee Russell Shirley; his daughters, Lisa Shirley McCall and her husband David, of Anderson, SC and Karen Shirley Johnson and her husband John Henry, of Huger, SC; eight grandchildren and fourteen great-grandchildren. The Graveside service will be held on Monday, July 20, 2015 at 10:00 a.m. at M.J. Dolly Cooper Veterans' Cemetery. The family will gather for a time of visitation following the service.
