William H. Strickland, Jr., 95, passed away Friday, February 5, 2021. William was born October 9, 1925, a son of the late William H. Strickland, Sr. and Alma Majeski Strickland. William was a graduate of Starr High School and served in the US Army during WWII. He served his country in Germany and France. Upon his return, he owned a turkey farm and owned/operated Strickland's Grocery. He then began a 30-year career as a Park Ranger for the US Army Corps of Engineers. He spent many years buying and selling real estate and used cars. He loved work; as his years and diversity of employment indicate. Not a man to sit still and allow life to pass him by. William loved his family and always thrived to provide the very best. He was an active member of Pleasantview Baptist Church and enjoyed attending church as long as his health permitted. William is survived by his wife, Doris Cleveland Strickland; son, Bill Strickland (Maxine) of Starr; daughter, Libby Watt (Lonnie) of Anderson; grandchildren, Suzanne Judy (Leigh) and Will Strickland; great grandchildren, Jay Strickland, Bennett Judy and Cason Judy; great great grandchild, Kaysen Strickland; siblings, Milton Strickland (Frances Jo) and Sara McElhannon (James), both of Anderson; and brother-in-law, Berry Creamer of Anderson. In addition to his parents, he is predeceased by sisters, Mildred Creamer and Bobbie Smith; and brother-in-law, Julian Smith. Friends and family are invited to sign the register book, Tuesday, February 9, 2021 from 10 am - 4 pm at the McDougald Funeral Home. A graveside service will be held Wednesday, February10, 2021 at 2 pm at New Silver Brook Cemetery. Rev. Randy Creamer and Dr. Glenn Taylor will officiate the service. Following the service, the family will greet visitors. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to Pleasantview Baptist Church or the charity of one's choice. Social distancing will be observed and masks are required.
