Obituary

William V. "Bill" Trammell, Jr., age 95 passed away on Wednesday June 24, 2015 at his residence after an extended illness. He was born in Anderson, SC, on January 28, 1920, a son of the late William Vernon Trammell, Sr. and the late Ramelle Nicholson Trammell. A life-long resident of Anderson County, he graduated from his beloved Clemson University in 1941 in the exceptional class of graduates known as the "wartime class," where 57 of his classmates lost their lives in World War II. They composed the backbone of what we understand today as the "Greatest Generation." Captain Trammell joined the 1st Engineer Amphibious Brigade and participated in the North Africa invasion, as well as campaigns in Tunisia, southern Italy, and southern France. Once home he pursued the American Dream. Mr. Trammell successfully operated three businesses; Traco Products, Traco Steel and Trammell Design Services which is still in operation today and operated by his oldest son, Steve. He was also a life-time member of First Presbyterian Church serving as a deacon and Sunday School teacher. Mr. Trammell and his wife worked tirelessly with the Republican Party on the local and state level. Their work began with the Eisenhower campaign and continued throughout his life. Mr. Trammell was married to his beloved wife Thelma Ruth Cothran Trammell for 56 years. He is survived by his children, Ramelle T. Coker (Devon) of Turbeville, SC, William Stephen Trammell (Donna) and Mark Vernon Trammell (Jennifer) of Anderson, SC, Andrew Nicholson Trammell (Lillian) of Coto de Caza, CA, and his bonus daughter Siggie Gambrell of Anderson, SC; 15 grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren; several beloved nephews and niece; and his faithful Cocker Spaniel, Dolly. In addition to his parents he was preceded in death by his wife Thelma, a grandson Matthew Trammell Zimmerman and a brother Robert Trammell. The Memorial Service will be held on Saturday, June 27, 2015 at 4:00 p.m. at First Presbyterian Church with Dr. Dennis Tedder officiating. Following the service there will be a celebration of his life party with family and friends in the Kirk.
