May 18, 1920 - April 29, 2008ANDERSON, SCMr. William Amos Welch, Sr., age 87, husband of Carmel Smith Welch of Anderson, SC, died Tuesday, April 29, 2008 at the Rainey Hospice House in Anderson, SC.Born in Valdosta, GA on May 18, 1920, Mr. Welch was a son of the late John Melton Welch and Annie Beatrice Kemp Welch. He was a United States World War II veteran having served in the Army Air Corps in Africa, Sicily and Italy. He was formerly employed with Davis Mechanical Contractors and Daniel Construction Company for a total of 30 years. Mr. Welch was a member of Concord Baptist Church.Survivors include his wife of the home; sons, William Amos Welch Jr., and his wife, Martha of Buford, GA, Frank Welch and his wife, Dr. Cacia Soares-Welch of Gainesville, GA; daughter, Sally Welch Ogletree and her husband, Sam of Marietta, GA; step-children, Wayne Smith and his wife, Becky, Judy Moore and her husband, Mike, Dayton Smith, Jack Smith and his wife, Debbie, Ronnie Smith, Karen Turk and her husband, Mike; five grandchildren, Nathan Welch, Aimee Waldrop, Scott Ogletree, Pennie McLean and Gisella Welch and five great-grandchildren; sisters, Elizabeth Russell and her husband, Jimmy of Rydal, GA, Velma Rodgers of Macon, GA, Evelyn Norman and her husband, Julian and Vivian Dallas, all of Valdosta, GA. In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his first wife, Charleen Baker Welch; four brothers, James, John, Jack and Raymond and sister, Ouida Lee.The Funeral Service will be held on Friday, May 2, 2008 at 3:30 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Dr. Don Cox and the Reverend Bob Marcaurelle. Interment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Military Honors by the Upstate Veterans Honor Guard.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Thursday, May 1, 2008 from 6:00 pm to 8:00 pm.The family will be at the residence.Memorials may be made to Concord Baptist Church, Children's Department, 1012 Concord Road, Anderson, SC 29621 or the Shriners Hospitals for Crippled Children, 950 W.
