WILLIAM 'BILLY' WHITAKER April 3, 1924 - September 18, 2008ANDERSON, SCMr. William Franklin Whitaker, age 84, husband of Wilma Trotter Whitaker, of 2005 East Calhoun Street, passed away on Thursday, September 18, 2008 at the AnMed Health Medical Center.Born in Anderson, SC on April 3, 1924, Mr. Whitaker the son of the late John Ashley Whitaker and Nelle Mae Watt Whitaker. He was a United States Army veteran of World War II, serving as a paratrooper with the 13th Airborne Division in Europe. He was a truck driver for over 30 years working with King Oil Company and retired from J. P. Stevens Company. His CB name was 'Mule Train'. He also worked with the City of Anderson Police Department. Mr. Whitaker was a member of Eureka Baptist church.Survivors include his wife, of the home; son, Ken Whitaker; daughter, Sheryl W. Saxon and her husband, Sonny, all of Anderson; step-daughter, Debra Ann Hawkins and her husband, Michael of Williamston; brother, Alford Whitaker; sisters, Claudine Howell, Dorothy Shaw, all of Anderson; 3 grandchildren; 3 great-grandchildren; 4 step-grandchildren and 6 step-great-grandchildren. He leaves behind his faithful dog, Charley.In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his first wife, Edna Harper Whitaker and stepmother, Lola Burdette Whitaker.The Funeral Service will be held on Saturday, September 20, 2008 at 3:00 pm in the Chapel of The McDougald Funeral Home officiated by the Reverend Dr. Ron Fousek. Entombment will follow in Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Friday, September 19, 2008 from 6-8 pm.The family will be at their respective homes.Flowers are optional.
