He was born July 6, 1915, in the Craytonville section of Anderson County, a son of the late Lee and Essie Thomas Wright. Jack is survived by his loving wife of 66 years, Elaine Hyde Wright. He is also survived by one brother, Bogue (Lettie) Wright of Anderson; two sisters, Marie Graves of Anderson and Annie Laura (John) Kinney of Columbia; and a foster son, Pat Lowery of Rocky Mount, NC.Jack was predeceased by his brothers, Humphrey, Charlie, Ross and Curtis and by a sister, Carrie Wright Brown. He was very special in the lives of all his nieces, nephews and extended family members.Mr. Wright was a member of Bethany Baptist Church. Captain Wright, a Marine Corps veteran of World War II, fought in the famous battles of the South Pacific, earned a battlefield commission, and later served in the Korean Conflict. He was among the Marines who witnessed the raising of the American flag on Iwo Jima. After military retirement, Jack distinguished himself in farming, real estate, and politics -- serving two terms in the South Carolina House of Representatives. His family will always treasure his memoirs in a book he wrote at the age of 85, 'Hobo to Leatherneck.' He leaves a legacy of a life well lived and enjoyed.The Funeral Service will be held on Thursday, November 20, 2008 at 2:00 pm at Bethany Baptist Church conducted by the Reverend Hal Hovis. Burial with military honors will follow in the Bethany Baptist Church Cemetery. The family will be at the home of Bogue and Lettie Wright, 816 Tillotson Road, Anderson, the day of the funeral and will receive friends at the church one hour prior to the service.In lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to Bethany Baptist Church, 1636 Bethany Church Road, Belton, SC 29627 or Hospice of The Upstate, 1835 Rogers Road, Anderson, SC 29621.
