Willie Mae Burke, age 80, formerly of Anderson, passed away on Saturday, April 2, 2016, at Elbert Memorial Hospital in Elberton, GA. Born in Anderson on August 9, 1935, she was the daughter of the late James Paul Burke and the late Marthaleen Bates Burke. Ms. Burke is a graduate of Anderson's Girls' High School and attended Forrest College. For many years, Willie was an administrative clerk in the Anderson County Tax Office. She was a member of Flat Rock Presbyterian Church. Willie is survived by a cousin raised in the home, Roger Bates and his wife, Ann, of Anderson. Also surviving are four nephews. In addition to her parents, Willie was preceded in death by a sister, Faye Taylor. A Graveside Service to celebrate and honor the life of Willie Mae Burke will be held on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, at 3 p.m. at Forest Lawn Memorial Park with Rev. Dr. Jack Couch officiating. The family will be at the home of Roger and Ann Bates, 608 Choctaw Street, Anderson, SC 29626, and will receive friends at The McDougald Funeral Home on Tuesday, April 5, 2016, from 1 p.m. until 2:30 p.m. Contributions in memory of Ms. Burke may be made to Flat Rock Presbyterian Church, 909 Flat Rock Road, Anderson, SC 29624.
