Willie Ruth Whitfield passed away on Saturday, August 4, 2018, at Marchbanks Assisted Living. She was 79. Born in Anderson, SC, on November 8, 1938, Ruth was a daughter of the late Barney Edmond Evans and the late Lizzie Rowland Evans. She retired from Michelin after 17 years of service and had worked for Anderson County School District 4. She was a faithful member of First Baptist Church and enjoyed square dancing and traveling as long as her health permitted. Those left to cherish her memory include her son, Larry Whitfield and his wife, Gloria; daughter, Wanda Comer and her husband, Greg; four grandchildren, Ashley, Coby, Tyler and Eden; three great-grandchildren; and two sisters, Mae DeGuzaman and Marion Ann Shealy. Ruth was preceded in death by her sister, Mamie Maroney. The Graveside service will be held at Oaklawn Memorial Gardens on Tuesday, August 7, 2018 at 11:00 a.m. The family will receive friends following the service. Reverend Ray Thompson will officiate.
