Iva, SC Winford "Big Boy" Metz, age 94, passed away Saturday, February 14, 2015, at Exalted Health and Rehab in Iva. Born in Iva, SC, on May 1, 1920, he was the son of the late Magnus and Alberta Bowie Metz. A member of Bethel United Methodist Church, Iva, he was retired from Jackson Mills with over 50 years of service. He is survived by his sons, James Metz (Sherron) of Starr and Gary Metz of Anderson; brothers, Jimmy Metz and Russell Metz, both of Iva; sisters, Grace Lawton of Iva and Martha Faye Greenway of Anderson; 4 grandchildren and 8 great-grandchildren. In addition to his parents, Mr. Metz was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Osborne Metz; and 8 brothers and sisters. The funeral service will be held at Union Baptist Church, Iva, on Monday, February 16, 2015, at 12:30 PM with the Reverend Mike McMillan officiating. Interment will follow at Iva City Cemetery. The family will receive friends at Union Baptist Church from 11:00 AM - to 12:15 PM on Monday prior to the service. The family will be at the home of James and Sherron Metz, 8844 Hwy 81 South, Starr.
