WINNIE TURNER BENFIELDMAY 10, 1918 - June 3, 2007 ANDERSON, SC Mrs. Winnie Turner Benfield, age 89, of 1409 Hilltop Drive died on Sunday, June 3, 2007 at the Hospice House in Anderson, South Carolina. She was the widow of James Verne Benfield of Valdese, North Carolina. Born in Pike County, Alabama on May 10, 1918, she was a daughter of the late Newman Sebastian Turner and Ida Bell Nelson Turner. Mrs. Benfield was a longtime resident of Hickory, North Carolina & Valdese, North Carolina and a recent resident of Anderson, South Carolina. She was a member of Waldensian Presbyterian Church in Valdese, North Carolina. Survivors include daughter, Diann Simms and son, Henry Holland Simms, III, both of Anderson; grandchildren: Walter Warren Brooks, Jr. and his wife, Lynn Tilson Brooks, of Beaufort, South Carolina; Simms Brooks Bagwell and her husband, Werner Wright Bagwell, of San Fransisco, California; and Patrick Nelson Brooks of San Fransisco, California; a great granddaughter, Eden Rose Brooks of Beaufort, South Carolina. There are also numerous nieces and nephews surviving. In addition to Mrs. Benfield's parents, she was preceded in death by her three brothers: Roy Franklin Turner, Nelson Byron Turner, and Furman Lamar Turner; and her two sisters: Mrytis Turner Redmond and Bernice Turner Nunnulee. A Graveside Service will be conducted at 11:00am on Thursday, June 7, 2007, at Waldensian Presbyterian Church Cemetery in Valdese, North Carolina with the Reverend Jim Cockerham officiating.
