Wofford Carlton Powell, age 82, formerly of 1000 Meadow Lane in Anderson, passed away Saturday, February 28, 2015, at his home after an extended illness.
Born in Anderson County, he was the son of the late Lloyd Turner Powell and Carro Campbell Powell. He was a 1949 graduate of Boys' High, later graduating from Forrest Junior College. Mr. Powell proudly served his country in the United States Navy during the Korean Conflict. He was employed by Clemson University and the Clemson Athletic Department for 37 years. He was a member of the Hiram Masonic Lodge #68 A.F.M. for 60 years as a Master Mason. He was inducted into the Tiger Brotherhood at Clemson University in 1976. He was a member of Concord Baptist Church. Mr. Powell loved and took great pride in his family. He was an avid shagger, woodworker, and NASCAR and Clemson fan.
He is survived by his daughters, Debbie Timmerman of St. Augustine, FL; Kim Stoudenmire and her husband Lynn of Greer, SC,; one brother, Randy Powell of Charlotte, NC; 5 grandchildren; and 1 great granddaughter.
In addition to his parents, he was preceded in death by his wife of 50 years, Dot Powell; his brother, William "Bill" Powell; his sister-in-law, Linda Powell; and his son-in-law, Mike Timmerman.
The funeral service will be held on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, at the McDougald Funeral Home Chapel at 1:00 PM. Entombment will follow at Forest Lawn Memorial Park Mausoleum.
The family will receive friends at the funeral home on Tuesday, March 3, 2015, from 11:30 until 12:30 prior to the service.
